For those of you hardcore skateboarders, there’s good news that this Scarpar motorized skateboard might just do the job for all your off-roading ventures.  Holy Schmolly, this gadget is so tight except you can’t really do ollies on it.

Someone really needs to just mass-manufacture and market this guy. Right now, the current estimate for a retail price for a single Scarpar is somewhere in the neighborhood of two or three thousand dollars. Can we get that price to drop a little lower, please? Most extreme sports nuts can’t even afford skyboarding.

For those of you commuters who want to skateboard to school or work, you might just be able to do that in style with the OrbitWheels.  They are compact enough to fit in your backpack so you don’t have to bring your skateboard to school or work.

I find that these OrbitWheels could keep your skateboard/snowboard muscles in shape during regular days.

The Orbitwheel actually looks pretty easy to ride, but then I said that about the skateboard when I first saw one and quickly proved myself wrong with a comedy, tooth-cracking faceplant. The hub-less wheels mean you have the bump-soaking abilities of a large wheel combined with a low sense of gravity and, as the instructional video (below) tells us, you can pump your way along in a skateboard tic-tac motion.

Some skateboard/computer genius created a homemade DIY skateboard game controller for Tony Hawk skateboarding game.

This is awesome, I wish they made one for real and so you can do real ollies with the whole bells and whistles.  (Yes, that means a fitness trailer too)

The deck uses a Wiimote to capture accelerometer data and send it over Bluetooth to software on the PC. This software then sends emulated keystrokes to the game in response to your movement on the deck. It looks like this was presented at GeekCon, and the creators also hacked some of the game skins to put the presenters’ likenesses in the game. Slick.

It’s not a skateboard really but you can still do some fun tricks just like a skateboard, I might have to get one to play around with.

Yey, here’s another cool finger-skateboard game for the iPhone.  I find finger-skateboards pretty boring (as I like real things better) but it might be helpful to keep my passions under control while in the airplane or somethin’

TouchGrind is a skateboarding game for the iPhone, and it’s probably the most addictive game I have played since Desktop Tower Defense. Don’t expect some crazy, Tony Hawk style jump-fest — Touchgrind has a physics engine so real it can be just as frustrating as riding a real board. It’s also controlled in much the same way as a real skateboard, with two fingers replacing the usual two feet.

Skateboarding gets more exciting as I strap a model airplane engine to the end of a skateboard.

I had a great time with this project. It was rather easy to put together and a whole lot of fun to test. I look forward to playing with it more and may update the video with more antics in the future.

Here’s a fun project, learn how to build a one-wheeled self-balancing skateboard!

Well, one thing I don’t like here is that it’s self-balancing.  As a skateboarder, this doesn’t make any sense as self-balancing will take out any fun.

Also, many people have tried to build self balancing robots with 2 wheels. There are many on the web. If you do this using a gyroscope, accelerometer, microcontroller and geared motors from a robotics store, you will spend almost the same amount of money as this machine cost to make. The mechanical parts are kart based and often available on ebay. Some robotics mechanical parts are pretty expensive. I thought if I was going to do the “self balancing” thing then I might as well make a robot I could ride!
