How to Sand Surf with a Sandviper Sandboard!

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Sandsurfing may not be too far off as designers have been flocking up new designs such as this Sandviper sandboard.  I have seen people do this on a snowboard before, I don’t see why you need a special board for it but the designer explains:

The special conditions on sand need specific equipment, hence this special board. “The front area is wide for more boosts in the sand and gets narrow in the back for aggressive maneuvers. The bottom side is slightly convex from nose to tail for an optimal float angle. The top side is vaulted therefore no sand amasses on the board and transfers more power from the foot to the board by the rampant angle. The foot loops assure an easy step in or out and transmit foothold and control of the board to the driver.” Apparently these loops can be fastened for Goofy or Regular riders.

This does seem like a quite do-able concept for the future surfers and snowboarders who happen to live in a 4-seasoned area where there’s a lot of sand such as Las Vegas…

Snowboarder Found via iPhone GPS and Twitter!

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

I do find that Twitter could be very useful for keeping in touch with friends while snowboarding, especially if you get lost, check out this story of a snowboarder who was saved via his iPhone GPS and Twitter.

Some snowboarders got lost in the alps. The guy with the iPhone, Jason Tavaria, used the phone’s GPS to aid his rescue. Tragically, his friend did not make it. Rescuers found the second lost person’s body at the bottom of a +60 foot fall next to a stream. The lost snowboarders’ friends kept in touch via twitter. It appears that while these skiers and snowboarders went off piste, none of them carried any sort of radio or satellite personal locator beacons…
